Dr. Paul R. Scherer - The Educator

Dr. Paul SchererFor over 40 years Dr. Scherer made significant contributions to the podiatric community, most notably in podiatric education. In addition to teaching foot and ankle biomechanics in the classroom, he lectured nationally and abroad. He also authored numerous scientific articles and the popular textbook Recent Advances in Orthotic Therapy.

Dr. Scherer held several academic positions at the California College of Podiatric Medicine including director of the Biomechanics Fellowship. He taught fellows from the early '70s through the late '90s when the fellowship ended. This fellowship created a generation of leaders and educators in podiatric biomechanics.

Dr. Scherer passed away unexpectedly in 2018 leaving a legacy of accomplishments and high standards of education for future generations of podiatrists. To honor his legacy, The Paul R. Scherer Biomechanics Fellowship is being established through the Paul and Anne Scherer Charitable Fund. This fellowship will help new practitioners gain practical, advanced biomechanical knowledge with the goal of creating future leaders and educators in podiatric biomechanics.
