 Dinner in the Vineyards

A heartfelt thanks to the the many individuals and organizations who made generous donations to help establish the Paul R. Scherer Biomechanics Fellowship. To date, over $40,000 has been raised!

Friends and colleagues of Dr. Scherer enjoyed a memorable evening at the stunning Odette Estate Winery for the Dinner in the Vineyards event. California Governor Gavin Newsome sent his greetings by video since he was unable to attend in person. Guests spent a delightful evening savoring the five-course dinner and wine pairings in honor of Dr. Scherer and the new Biomechanics Fellowship.

Paul R. Scherer Memorial Biomechanics Seminar

The California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University presented an excellent one-day seminar with an amazing lineup of speakers, including:

Proceeds from the seminar will benefit the Paul R. Scherer, DPM Memorial Biomechanics Podiatric Medicine Scholarship, California School of Podiatric Medicine.  

Dr. Paul R. Scherer - The Educator


Dr. Paul SchererFor over 40 years Dr. Scherer made significant contributions to the podiatric community, most notably in podiatric education. In addition to teaching foot and ankle biomechanics in the classroom, he lectured nationally and abroad. He also authored numerous scientific articles and the popular textbook Recent Advances in Orthotic Therapy.

Dr. Scherer held several academic positions at the California College of Podiatric Medicine including director of the Biomechanics Fellowship. He taught fellows from the early '70s through the late '90s when the fellowship ended. This fellowship created a generation of leaders and educators in podiatric biomechanics.

Dr. Scherer passed away unexpectedly in 2018 leaving a legacy of accomplishments and high standards of education for future generations of podiatrists. To honor his legacy, The Paul R. Scherer Biomechanics Fellowship is being established through the Paul and Anne Scherer Charitable Fund. This fellowship will help new practitioners gain practical, advanced biomechanical knowledge with the goal of creating future leaders and educators in podiatric biomechanics
