Accommodative Specialty Orthoses
Below is a description of our Accommodative Specialy Orthoses. The default specifications for each device is listed on the back of our prescription form. Semiweightbearing casts are required for to make accommodative orthoses.
Custom Diabetic
Designed specifically for the diabetic or insensate foot, the four-layer Custom Diabetic orthosis offers protection, cushioning, and support. Firm Plastazote is used as the shell material, providing relatively firm support. The conforming shape from the semiweightbearing casts helps transfer weight more evenly across the plantar surface of the foot. A special tri-layer cover (Poron for cushion, P-Cell for accommodation and leather for shear) provides cushioning to reduce pressure and shear stresses.
Custom Insoles
Custom Insoles are designed to redistribute the plantar forces and decrease the plantar “hot spots” by increasing pressure in the midfront. They are made of medium density plastazote that is formed over a non-corrected cast.
ProLab’s Custom Insoles fulfill the requirements for a custom insole as defined in the Medicare Therapeutic Shoe Bill. Custom Insoles work well in extra depth shoes for the neuropathic patient and are designed to be replaced 1 – 3 times per year.
EVA Accommodative
The EVA Accommodative custom orthosis provides superb comfort for the foot. EVA is a durable material that is available in a medium or firm density. Medium EVA is slightly softer and firm EVA is slightly firmer when compared to the firm Plastazote used in Custom Diabetic orthoses or Custom Insoles. This device is designed to relieve pressure and pain where needed. It comes standard with a nylene topcover. This device is less bulky and much lighter than the traditional cork and leather device. The EVA Accommodative provides excellent cushioning and moderate support can be manufactured to fit most shoes.
