Plantar Fasciitis - Pathology and Treatment
The goal of orthotic therapy in treating plantar fasciitis is to reduce tension on the plantar fascia. Tension on the plantar fascia is related to foot biomechanics. An everted rearfoot jams the medial forefoot into the ground, elevating the first ray, lengthening the foot, and stretching the plantar fascia. An everted forefoot can also affect plantar fascia tension. Forefoot eversion increases force under the medial forefoot, elevates the first ray, and lengthens the foot and plantar fascia.
ProLab has developed two Pathology Specific Orthoses for plantar fasciitis: Plantar Fasciitis due to Everted Rearfoot offers rearfoot control through such modifications as a medial heel skive, rearfoot post, and deep heel cup. Plantar Fasciitis due to Forefoot Valgus helps prevent first-ray dorsiflexion with a reverse Morton’s extension.
