Metatarsalgia - Pathology and Treatment
Metatarsalgia is a general term that describes pain caused by excessive force
under the metatarsal heads. Management of metatarsalgia with orthotic therapy
requires identification of the exact etiology through careful assessment and
differential diagnoses. The objective of ProLab’s Metatarsalgia Orthoses is to
transfer ground reactive force from the forefoot, by using minimum cast
fill. This helps to gently transfer pressure from the met heads to the arch area.
A Poron metatarsal bar provides cushioning for the metatarsal heads. This device works well with patients who have metatarsalgia from abnormal foot motion or from the effects of arthritic
deformities. Various options, such as forefoot accommodations for specific
metatarsal heads, can be added to this device.
