For patients with plantar fibromatosis who are experiencing pain from their fibromas, we have a prescription recommendation for their orthoses.
The goal when treating this problem with orthoses is the following:
1. Reduce pressure on fibromas
2. Reduce tension on plantar fascia
3. Allow for easy adjustment - especially making the sweet spot deeper if necessary
To accomplish this, the following orthosis prescription can be used:
- VF poly 3mm with EVA arch fill (using this combo will allow ability to grind directly into the orthosis - and even through the poly - if the sweet spot for the fibroma is not deep enough)
- Deep heel cup
- Minimum cast fill (to decrease fascia tension)
- 4mm heel skive (to reduce heel eversion and help prevent arch of foot collapsing into arch of orthosis)
- Extra deep (1/4") sweet spot for fibromas.
- EVA RF post
- Cover:EVA 3mm soft with 1.5mm poron (the cushion helps distribute pressure around fibroma)
- Glue cover heel only (so that sweet spots can be increased if not deep enough)
