Achilles Tendinitis - Pathology and Treatment
Achilles tendinitis is an overuse syndrome exacerbated by a flexible flatfoot. The more flexible the foot, the more mobile the midtarsal joint, making it harder for the gastroc-soleus to create heel lift. ProLab’s Pathology Specific Orthoses for Achilles tendinitis are designed to stabilize the midtarsal joint and make the foot a more rigid lever, in order to reduce the workload of the Achilles tendon. The orthoses are also designed to decrease traction and tension on the Achilles tendon. Traction is decreased by limiting subtalar joint pronation and resultant midtarsal joint hypermobility. Tension is reduced by using a heel lift and standard cast fill. ProLab’s Achilles Tendinitis Orthoses focus on treating the pathomechanics of Achilles overuse, not just its symptoms.
