Our Founder - Paul R. Scherer, DPM
Dr. Scherer is the immediate past Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Applied Biomechanics at Samuel Merritt University, a position he has been appointed to three times in the past 35 years. As faculty he is Board Certified both by ABPS and ABPOPPM. Dr. Scherer participates in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the American College of Foot Orthopedics, the American Podiatric Medical Association and the American Physician Fellowship. He was awarded the APMA Fellowship in 1972, given the hall of Science Award in 1976, awarded tenure in 1983, named by the American Physician Fellowship as Physician of the Year in 1988 and honored as commencement speaker for the college in 1990.
Dr. Scherer has received both public and private grants for his academic work and has published on a wide variety of topics including surgical foot procedures, the effects of specialty shoes, clinical outcomes related to tinea pedis, collagenase ulcer therapy, accelerated fracture healing, cystic chromomycosis, GSW of the foot, heel spur syndrome and the biomechanics of the first ray and its relationship to first MPJ motion. He has published numerous articles in non-peer reviewed publications, updating podiatrists concerning recent advances in orthotic therapy and biomechanics of the foot and ankle. He is a popular lecturer on foot biomechanics both in the academic environment as well as for national continuing medical education programs. Dr. Scherer was named the 2009 Wolfson Scholar for his significant contributions to podiatric education. He is Administrative Director of Health Plans Organization of California in San Francisco as well as CEO of ProLab Orthotics/USA in Napa, California.
